Torri Superiore is a medieval village located in a valley crossed by the Bevera river at the foot of the Ligurian Alps. It is 11 km from the coastal town of Ventimiglia and 16 km from the border with France.
The village, originally from the 13th century, extends along the side of the mountain and is composed of a very fascinating architecture with a network of stairs and passages that connect three main structures including approximately 160 rooms.
The Torri Superiore ecovillage is the result of the work of the Cultural Association of the same name established with the aim of recovering and restoring the abandoned medieval village based on ecological principles, creating and supporting a resident community and contributing to the creation of an open cultural center to everyone.
The village, in fact, is now home to events and courses dedicated to environmental education while offering hospitality for stays and holidays in a highly suggestive place.
Guests are welcomed by a family atmosphere in rooms with a rustic and sustainable style.
There are large common areas such as several terraces, some of which are covered, a children's play area, a library, a large meeting room, a room dedicated to yoga and an "Al Mathusalem" Club with five-a-side football and music area.
Services and activities of the Torri Superiore ecovillage
The Torri Superiore ecovillage offers typically Mediterranean cuisine rich in fresh fruit and vegetables with local organic and fair trade products, many of which are home-grown.
There is the possibility of requesting vegan and vegetarian menus.
Torri Superiore is located in a place that lends itself to various activities including:
- hiking and nature walks (on foot, by bus or by car) exploring routes with different levels of difficulty;
- discover the beaches of Ventimiglia (Le Calandre, I Balzi Rossi, the beaches of Ventimiglia city);
- take car trips to the surrounding villages (Dolceacqua, Rocchetta Nervina, Apricale, Bajardo, Seborga, Triora, Airole, Olivetta San Michele and Bussana Vecchia) and across the border with France to visit Nice, Menton, Saorge, Sospel, the Valley of Wonders and Casterino and the village of Eze.
The green commitment of the Torri Superiore ecovillage
The recovery project of the ghost village made use of new technologies to minimize the environmental impact by exploiting natural materials.
Local stone and natural insulating materials such as coconut fiber and cork were used. Natural lime was used for the plaster of the walls while the wooden windows and doors were treated with ecological paints and enamels.
The rooms dedicated to guests' stay, in fact, have lime or stone walls, wooden fixtures and furnishings and terracotta or parquet floors.
There are solar panels for the production of most of the necessary hot water and photovoltaic panels for the production of electricity. Furthermore, there is also a small plant for phytopurification.
The Torri Superiore ecovillage recycles all food scraps for animal nutrition or compost production. Separate waste collection is carried out and we try to reuse everything possible.
Prices and availability of the Torri Superiore ecovillage
The Torri Superiore ecovillage is open 10 months a year with closure in the months of January and February.
Room prices are for half board including buffet breakfast and dinner.
- Double room with private bathroom: €66/night/person
- Double room with shared bathroom: €55/night/person
- Quadruple room with shared bathroom: €55/night/person
- Single room with shared bathroom: €55/night/person
For children up to 3 years old, the stay is free;
For children between 3 years and 12 years, the stay is discounted at 50%.
