Blood stains might seem like a tough problem to tackle, but with the right techniques and products, they can be effectively removed from both white and colored fabrics.

Here is a detailed guide on how to remove both fresh and dried blood stains from fabrics, mattresses, sofas, and carpets.

Removing Blood Stains from Fabrics

White Fabrics

Cold water and soap: as soon as possible, rinse the blood stain with cold water. Do not use hot water, as it can set the stain. Apply liquid soap directly to the stain and gently rub. Rinse with cold water.

Hydrogen peroxide: for more stubborn stains, hydrogen peroxide can be effective. Apply it directly to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Rinse thoroughly and wash the garment as usual.

Baking soda: make a paste with baking soda and water. Apply to the stain and leave it for about 30 minutes. Rinse with cold water and proceed with the normal wash.

Colored Fabrics

Cold water and soap: for colored fabrics too, cold water is essential. Use mild liquid soap to avoid damaging the colors. Gently rub and rinse.

White vinegar: white vinegar is a good alternative for colored fabrics. Dilute one part vinegar in two parts water and apply to the stain. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then rinse.

Ammonia: dilute ammonia in water (1 tablespoon per cup of water) and dab the stain with a clean cloth soaked in the solution. Rinse with cold water and wash as usual.

Removing Blood Stains from Mattresses

Baking soda and water: mix baking soda with water to create a creamy paste and apply it to the stain. Let it sit for 30 minutes and then remove with a damp cloth.

Hydrogen peroxide: apply a small amount of hydrogen peroxide to the stain and dab with a clean cloth. Avoid soaking the mattress. Repeat if necessary.

Vacuum cleaner: once the stain has been treated and dried, use a vacuum cleaner to remove any residue of baking soda or other products used.

Removing Blood Stains from a Sofa

Mild Liquid Soap: prepare a solution with cold water and mild liquid soap. Dab the stain with a cloth soaked in the solution, avoiding rubbing too vigorously.

Hydrogen Peroxide: for durable fabric sofas, apply hydrogen peroxide on the stain. Gently dab with a clean cloth and repeat until completely removed.

Ammonia Solution: dilute a small amount of ammonia in water and use a cloth to dab the stain. Rinse with a damp cloth.

Cleaning Blood Stains from Carpets

Cold Water and Detergent: always start with cold water to prevent the stain from setting. Use a mild detergent and a cloth to dab the stain.

White Vinegar: mix one part white vinegar with two parts water. Dab the stain with a cloth soaked in the solution. Let it sit for a few minutes and then dry with a clean cloth.

Ammonia: if the stain persists, use an ammonia solution (1 tablespoon of ammonia in a cup of water). Dab the stain and then rinse with a damp cloth.

General Tips

Act Quickly: address the stain as soon as possible to prevent it from setting.
Cold Water: always prefer cold water for the initial cleaning stages.
Test Products: before applying any product, test it on a small hidden area of the fabric to avoid damage or discoloration.
Do Not Rub: dab instead of rubbing to avoid spreading the stain.

By following these tips and methods, you will be able to effectively remove blood stains from fabrics, keeping them clean and well-maintained.

Each type of fabric may require specific attention, so it is important to adapt the cleaning method to the specific material for the best results.
