Eco-sustainable is an adjective whose etymology is to be found in the composition of the words eco and sustinere.

Eco comes from the Greek word "oikia" meaning house and sustinere is a Latin verb which means to support. The meaning of eco-sustainable is therefore "supporting the home" where by home we mean our ecosystem in a global sense.

Therefore, any process, activity, product or material whose life cycle does not alter the balance of the ecosystem in which it is located can be defined as eco-sustainable so that it is not compromised for future generations.

The adjective eco-sustainable applies to the most varied fields: industrial processes, construction, architecture, agriculture, tourism, fashion, etc.
